4:40 Bruh this guy is freaking clutch braking. Not using the brake but simply downshifting the gear to lower the speed of the car. It puts tremendous strain on any car's gear and you shouldn't do it unless your brakes are failing.

His gears will be fine as long as he isn't pushing the rpm into the red zone. Downshifting isn't harmful if done properly.

Maybe not, but not bothering to brake at all before downshifting is incredibly risky and stupid. You're forcing the car to suddenly shift with no time for it to "adjust" and thus, are putting a lot of stress on the engine. Worst case scenario, something slips during the gear shift and a hole gets punched through your engine.

It's the same as shifting up. As long as your rev matching it wont harm the car. It's not stupid and is part of driving a manual.

You honestly think this kid knows that? This is season 1 Takumi 2.0 we're dealing with here: He doesn't even know what his car is called, let alone what rev matching is. So in this particular instance, it's very stupid.

to be fare the kid dont know what rev is but he probably hears the engine being too loud when he shifts down i used on my dads old car where there was no rev meter at all when i was learning how to drive yea its that old of a car all your q is the engine sound to shift up and shift down and the miles meter there was no rev meter at all so its possible here. That being said yea the detail and physics past stage 3 are all mostly ignored most of the time so you are correct were at video game land again the kid is fast because the anime says hes fast not really anything technical in practice :D Unfortunately for him hes vs our MC so will lose anyway my only problem with moments like this is when they break my immersion i just start laughing at every silly thing that happens after and cant take the race seriously anymore :D

This is the same kid whose main principle is to brake as little as possible, safety is not his concern. Ironically, I’d argue it’s that confidence (in his ignorance) that allows him to do so without hesitation and in proper timing, allowing less strain on the engine.

So to make it clear, Shinji is only faster than Takumi because it's his home course and he's been driving on Kanagawa past 12 years.
Take him to other courses like Akina, Akagi, Myogi etc, Takumi would be so fast that Shinji won't be able to comprehend what's happening.
